The Amazing Power of Intention

Have you been feeling stressed out lately?

Maybe you’re starting or growing your business and feeling overwhelmed. There’s a lot to do, but you’re stuck, spinning, and getting nowhere fast. That’s a pretty crappy place to be when you’re in the midst of it, but there is a way out.

Setting an intention can change that

One of my favorite practices when working with a client is to set an intention before we set any goals or get to work. If you practice yoga, you may be used to setting an intention at the start of your practice. This is similar. We do this because identifying how we want to feel while we do our work sets the stage energetically and helps keep us on track.

You can choose your state of being for whatever you’re working on at any given time. Setting an intention gives you a place to focus your energy and makes your work more supportive and enjoyable without any real effort from you.

It’s like setting a gentle goal for your subconscious.

For example, if what you really want today is to feel clear, focused and confident, then that’s what you would write down as your intention. Or maybe you want to feel creative, empowered and unstoppable. On days when you’re facing something especially tough, you might choose to feel calm, grounded, open to possibility, and positive.

Once you identify how you want to feel, you’ve set the stage, and you can get to work.

Writing down your intentions can also serve as a reminder for when things go a little off track, so you can refer back to them, refocus and course-correct on the fly.

How to set your intention for your day

It’s really simple. Take out a piece of paper, and write “Today I want to feel _________________” and write down whatever comes up for you.

Don’t overthink this. Write whatever comes to mind at that moment, and make that list as long as you need it to be. There are no rules. Your intentions belong to you and only you.

You can set intentions for anything, really. When you get up in the morning, try setting an intention for the day ahead, for a particular project, event, relationship, etc. Whatever it is that you want, claim it and embrace it.

Practice this daily, and you’ll be amazed at the results!
